So when you say AI is a natural path, you're identifying something most people miss entirely. The outrage about AI feels sudden, but the underlying movement — humans progressively handing over inner capacities to external systems — has been underway for years. Social media softened the ground. It normalized the habit of looking outside for what should be generated inside. AI just made the pattern visible because it touched cognition explicitly, and cognition is the one thing we still pointed to and said "but that's mine."

And here's what makes your observation really uncomfortable in a productive way. If we were already outsourcing belief and values through social media, then the AI debate is in some ways a displaced anxiety. People are alarmed about AI taking their thinking while barely questioning that social media already reshaped their worldview. The house was already being renovated from the inside. AI just knocked on the front door and made everyone suddenly notice the walls had moved.

Which brings it full circle to your previous point. The power was always in the individual. It was true before social media, it was true during, and it's true now with AI. The question was never really about the technology. It was always about whether people would stay home inside themselves or keep moving out.
